Dig Deep with Your Nails Out
Kanchan Balsé & Marie B. Gauthiez
Sat, Dec 7, 2024 - Sat, Feb 8, 2025 (Extended!)
Feral Muse is pleased to present its inaugural exhibition, Dig Deep with Your Nails Out, featuring the work of Kanchan Balsé and Marie B. Gauthiez.
Both artists engage in acts of excavation, transforming materials into layered narratives. Balsé scavenges for discarded objects outdoors, recombining them into hybrid sculptures. Gauthiez builds and deconstructs layers of imagery in mixed media paintings and assemblages, using both traditional and unconventional materials.
But these acts of excavation go beyond the physical. For the artists, objects and materials — from Balsé's beach debris and family heirlooms to Gauthiez's grout and wallpaper patterns — hold potent meanings. The act of making art provides pathways to explore identity, social boundaries, and connections to place and time.
And so, into surroundings and self, they dig.
The gallery is open Saturdays 12-4pm*, during events, and by appointment.
